French investigators have received a detailed new statement suggesting that Cédric Jubillar, jailed since 2021 for the presumed murder of his wife Delphine, privately confessed to the killing. According to a phone call logged by the gendarmerie on 14 May and forwarded to the Toulouse prosecutor’s office, Jubillar’s current girlfriend—identified in press reports under the pseudonym “Justine”—told a confidant that the defendant described how he strangled Delphine in the family living room shortly before her 2020 disappearance and later buried the body on farmland south of Albi. The woman, who visited Jubillar regularly at the Seysses prison, says he reenacted the chokehold during a parloir meeting and claimed to have planned the burial site in advance. Her lawyer has indicated she will seek civil-party status at the trial, scheduled to run from 22 September to 19 October before the Tarn assizes court in Albi. Defence counsel Alexandre Martin dismissed the account as “hallucinant” and criticised prosecutors for failing to disclose the information sooner, arguing the case file is “not ready” and the hearing may need to be postponed. Prosecutor General Nicolas Jacquet confirmed receipt of the report, adding that any further inquiries rest with the presiding judge. Jubillar continues to deny involvement in his wife’s disappearance.
