Bayern Munich captured the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup for a record 10th time, defeating German Cup holders VfB Stuttgart 2–1 at the MHP Arena on Saturday. Harry Kane capitalised on a defensive error after 18 minutes to give the Bundesliga champions an early lead, and new signing Luis Díaz doubled the advantage with a close-range header in the 77th minute on his competitive debut. Díaz, acquired from Liverpool for about €70 million, celebrated by sitting on the turf in a pose made famous by the late Diogo Jota, dedicating the goal to his former teammate who died in a car accident in July. Stuttgart pressed for an equaliser throughout, but Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer produced several reflex saves before Jamie Leweling’s stoppage-time header halved the deficit. The result delivers Vincent Kompany’s side their first silverware of the 2025-26 campaign and maintains momentum ahead of next week’s Bundesliga opener against Leipzig. Stuttgart, meanwhile, will regroup before travelling to Union Berlin to start their league season.
