RB Leipzig have allowed Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons to leave the club’s training camp and travel to London as negotiations over a permanent move to the Premier League intensify. The 22-year-old did not take part in Thursday’s session in Germany and arrived in the UK earlier in the day, according to the Bundesliga side and multiple reports. Tottenham Hotspur opened formal talks with Leipzig on Thursday, overtaking long-standing suitor Chelsea in the pursuit of the former Barcelona academy player. Chelsea reached personal terms with Simons in July but have yet to submit an official bid, while Spurs are now in direct club-to-club discussions. Leipzig are understood to be seeking a fee in the region of €65 million for the playmaker, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain last summer and scored 10 goals in all competitions last season. Both London clubs are expected to continue talks over the coming days as Simons and his representatives weigh their options.
