The 4th U.S. Adaptive Open is set to begin at Woodmont Country Club in Maryland, the same venue where Rose Zhang won the 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur. The championship features a diverse field of competitors, including individuals with various physical disabilities. Notable participants include Carter Henning, who lost his leg in a snowmobile accident earlier this year but still made his varsity golf team and will play alongside 12-time PGA Tour winner Zach Johnson. Other inspiring competitors are Russell Aide, a 6-foot-9 Canadian teenager, and Cindy Lawrence, a double amputee grandmother from Florida. Rose Veldman, who lost both legs while rescuing a girl during the 2010 Haiti earthquake, will defend her title in the women’s Multiple Limb Amputee category. Jordan Thomas, another Multiple Limb Amputee competitor, has been highlighted for his impressive swing during practice rounds. The event underscores the adaptability and spirit of the players, with stories like Josh Basile’s creation of AdapTee Golf further illustrating the championship’s impact on inclusive golf.
