Akie Iwai won the Portland Classic with a 6-under par 66, finishing four strokes ahead to claim her first LPGA Tour victory in her rookie season. This win made her and her twin sister, Chisato Iwai, the first pair of twins to each win on the LPGA Tour during their rookie years, with Chisato having won the Mexico Riviera Maya Open just three months earlier. Following her Portland Classic triumph, Akie Iwai led the first round of the CPKC Women’s Open in Mississauga, Canada, shooting a 7-birdie, no-bogey 64 to hold a two-stroke lead. She maintained her lead in subsequent rounds, opening a three-stroke advantage as she sought her second consecutive LPGA Tour victory.
