Mitchell Amador, founder of ImmuneFi, has characterized DeFi hacking as a burgeoning career path, stating that it has evolved into a full-time job for many. He noted that professional attackers are developing sophisticated methods, turning exploits into scalable business models. The recent $50 million breach at Radiant Capital exemplifies the advanced nature of these attacks, which often exploit human error and social engineering. Amador highlighted that the total losses in the DeFi sector reached $424 million in the third quarter of 2024, pointing to the increasing risks associated with decentralized finance. Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism that the crypto space is becoming safer overall. The conversation around DeFi security is further amplified by ongoing initiatives, such as the $1.5 million reward pool available in the Ethereum Protocol Attackathon, aimed at incentivizing security researchers to identify vulnerabilities.
