Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has launched a strategic roadmap named 'ASPIRe' to enhance the city's position as a global cryptocurrency hub. The roadmap includes 12 initiatives aimed at streamlining licensing, enhancing investor protection, and fostering market growth. These measures are designed to tap into a $3 trillion market opportunity by improving regulatory clarity and market accessibility. The initiatives include opening up staking services, attracting global liquidity, exploring derivatives trading and financing lending, and licensing for over-the-counter (OTC) trading and custody services. The SFC's efforts align with Hong Kong's ambition to become a leading center for digital assets, as evidenced by recent developments such as the announcement of a Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin by Standard Chartered Bank Hong Kong, Animoca Brands, and HKT.
