The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced separate squads on Tuesday for two major tournaments, finalising a 15-member men’s side for the T20 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates and a 15-member women’s team for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup on home soil beginning 30 September. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the men’s unit with opener Shubman Gill named vice-captain. Fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah returns after a post-England-series break, heading a pace group that also includes Arshdeep Singh and uncapped seamer Harshit Rana. Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and hard-hitting middle-order batter Rinku Singh fill key batting slots, while Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel spearhead spin. Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar said there was no room for Shreyas Iyer or Yashasvi Jaiswal given current form and team balance. Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel and Jaiswal were named as stand-bys. For the Women’s World Cup, Harmanpreet Kaur retains the captaincy with opener Smriti Mandhana as her deputy. The squad blends established names—Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma and seamer Renuka Singh Thakur—with first-time World Cup selectees such as all-rounder Pratika Rawal. Hard-hitting opener Shafali Verma missed out after limited recent game time, while medium-pacer Amanjot Kaur secured a place following clearance from fitness staff. The men’s selection meeting in Mumbai was briefly delayed by heavy rain, but BCCI officials, including Agarkar and secretary Devajit Saikia, confirmed the decisions later in the afternoon. The Asia Cup will act as India’s principal tune-up for the men’s T20 World Cup next February, while the women aim to capitalise on home conditions in their quest for a maiden global title.
