The Bengaluru Urban District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ruled against PVR INOX for delaying film screenings due to excessive advertisements, labeling the practice as 'unfair.' The court ordered the theatre chain to pay Rs 1 lakh in punitive damages. This decision arose from a lawsuit filed by a Bengaluru man who claimed that he was subjected to a 25-minute advertisement delay before a movie, which he described as a waste of time. PVR INOX plans to challenge the penalty order. The ruling comes amid a challenging start to 2025 for the cinema chain, although it noted that the film 'Chhaava' is performing well at the box office.
