The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of India has launched a nationwide crackdown on the GainBitcoin cryptocurrency scam, conducting raids at over 60 locations across multiple states, including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru. The operation, which took place from February 25 to 26, 2025, resulted in the seizure of cryptocurrencies valued at approximately ₹23.94 crore (around $2.75 million). This action is part of a broader effort by central agencies to address the unregulated and opaque dealings within the cryptocurrency sector. The GainBitcoin scam, which has been under investigation for several years, is estimated to involve losses amounting to ₹6,600 crore (approximately $795 million). In addition to the cryptocurrencies, authorities recovered 34 laptops, crypto wallets, hard disks, and various documents that are expected to provide further insights into the misappropriation of funds and the scam's global connections.
