A cloudburst struck the Tharali tehsil of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand late on the night of August 22-23, 2025, triggering flash floods and widespread damage. The sudden heavy rainfall caused debris to flow into houses, markets, and the SDM's residence, resulting in the collapse of at least two houses and blocking roads. One woman, Kavita, was buried under debris, and a man named Joshi was reported missing. Several people were injured, with six airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for treatment. Rescue and relief operations were promptly initiated by the district administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the State Emergency Operations Centre in Dehradun and later conducted field inspections and met with disaster-affected people at relief camps in Kulsari. The administration is working to restore damaged infrastructure and provide essential support to victims. Concurrently, heavy rains affected other parts of northern India, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, leading to waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and river levels rising above danger marks. Authorities have issued alerts and are monitoring the situation closely to mitigate further risks.
