Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting with women military officers from the United Nations, highlighting India’s role as the largest contributor to UN peacekeeping missions and its support for women's participation in the armed forces. Singh also announced a collaboration between India and French aerospace company Safran to co-develop a 110 kN fighter jet engine in India for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) Mk-2, marking progress toward building fifth- and sixth-generation fighter aircraft. The Defence Research and Development Organisation's Aeronautical Development Agency has begun work on the first AMCA prototype. Additionally, the Indian Air Force has started receiving Meteor Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missiles (BVRAAMs) from European defense suppliers, enhancing its aerial combat capabilities. Singh emphasized India’s growing global economic influence, citing a statement by economist Jagdish Bhagwati about India directing the World Bank, and spoke about India’s potential to strengthen global supply chains amid worldwide disruptions. He also responded to remarks by Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir, who compared India to a Mercedes and Pakistan to a dump truck, calling it a reflection of Pakistan’s historical challenges and asserting that India’s Operation Sindoor has demonstrated its resolve. Singh further announced new orders worth Rs 66,000 crore for 97 Tejas fighter aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), in addition to a previous Rs 48,000 crore order for 83 aircraft. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening India’s defense sector and promoting the 'Make in India' initiative to produce defense equipment not only for domestic use but also for global markets.
