On May 29, 2025, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers in the Indian cash market with a net purchase of ₹4,286.50 crore, while foreign institutional investors (FIIs) also bought net ₹884.03 crore, resulting in a combined net inflow of ₹5,170.53 crore. FIIs held a long-short ratio of 19.71 in index futures as of that date. However, on May 30, 2025, the market saw a reversal in foreign investor activity, with FIIs turning net sellers, offloading ₹6,449.74 crore worth of equities. In contrast, DIIs increased their buying, with a net purchase of ₹9,095.91 crore across NSE, BSE, and MSEI exchanges. This strong DII buying helped offset the foreign investor sell-off on the last trading day of May. Over the preceding two months, FIIs had cumulatively invested approximately ₹20,000 crore, raising questions about the sustainability of their participation in the market.
