On December 24, 2024, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) net sold equity worth ₹2,454.21 crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) were net buyers, purchasing approximately ₹2,819.25 crore in the Indian equity market. This trend reflects a broader pattern observed throughout the year, where FIIs have net sold ₹3.06 lakh crore worth of shares, contrasted by DIIs net buying ₹5.97 lakh crore. The selling by FIIs follows disappointing corporate earnings in India for Q2FY25 and high market valuations, prompting profit-booking actions. Despite this sell-off, FIIs were reported as net buyers in the equity segment earlier on December 24, with gross buying amounting to ₹9,113.12 crore, although they were net sellers in the debt segment according to data from the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL).
