Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) and Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) showed varied trading activity in the Indian equity markets from May 12 to May 14, 2025. On May 12, FIIs recorded a net purchase of ₹1,246.48 crore while DIIs net bought ₹1,448.37 crore. The following day, May 13, FIIs shifted to net selling with ₹476.86 crore sold, whereas DIIs increased their net buying to ₹4,273.80 crore. Detailed data from the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), and Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India (MSEI) indicated that on May 13, DIIs bought stocks worth ₹16,551.85 crore and sold ₹12,278.05 crore, resulting in a net buy of ₹4,273.80 crore. FIIs bought ₹17,231.19 crore but sold ₹17,708.05 crore, leading to a net sell of ₹476.86 crore. In the derivatives segment on May 13, FIIs sold futures and options (F&O) contracts totaling ₹6,668.28 crore, with open positions declining by 15% and the long-short ratio in index futures dropping to 0.6 over the last three trading days. On May 14, FIIs returned to net buying with ₹931.80 crore, and DIIs also continued net buying with ₹316.31 crore. On that day, DIIs bought ₹13,602.99 crore and sold ₹13,286.68 crore. The data reflects fluctuating investor sentiment with FIIs showing cautious positioning in the derivatives market while DIIs maintained consistent net buying across the period.
