A sophisticated 'digital arrest' scam has emerged in Gujarat, where cybercriminals impersonate law enforcement officials to extort money from victims. In one instance, an Ahmedabad-based builder was defrauded of ₹ 1 crore after being falsely accused of drug trafficking. The scam involved a fake parcel containing 550 grams of MD drugs, leading the builder to believe that the Narcotics Control Bureau had filed a complaint against him. Additionally, in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, scammers digitally arrested an individual, defrauding them of ₹ 49 lakh. The Gujarat Police have arrested three members of a Rajasthan-based gang involved in these scams, recovering ₹ 11 lakh in cash from them.
