The Indian government has approved a $276 million foreign direct investment by Singapore Airlines, clearing the final hurdle for the merger of Air India and Vistara. Singapore Airlines, which holds a 49% stake in Vistara, will integrate its operations into Air India, creating one of the world's largest airline groups. The merger is set to be completed by November 12, 2024, after which all Vistara operations and bookings will be managed by Air India. Starting September 3, 2024, passengers will progressively no longer be able to book tickets with Vistara for travel on or after November 12, 2024. The merger will result in Singapore Airlines holding a 25.1% stake in the new entity.
