India’s Sports Ministry has formally ruled out all bilateral sporting engagements with Pakistan, saying national teams will neither travel across the border nor host Pakistan for one-on-one contests. The prohibition, effective immediately, applies across sports and follows years of sporadic interruptions in bilateral cricket ties between the two countries. The ministry simultaneously confirmed that Indian athletes and teams may compete against Pakistan in multinational tournaments held in neutral venues or in India. The clarification clears the way for India’s men’s side to face Pakistan during the Asia Cup scheduled for September 2025 and for potential meetings at the women’s One-Day International World Cup. Cricket boards had been waiting for government direction because any bilateral visit requires sovereign approval. While the decision preserves marquee India-Pakistan match-ups in global events, it cements the freeze on standalone series that have not taken place since 2013.
