The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of India has launched the first Digital Threat Report 2024, aimed at enhancing cybersecurity within the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector. The report highlights sector-wide security gaps and emerging cyber risks, emphasizing the need for a unified cybersecurity framework to protect financial institutions. Secretary S. Krishnan, during the launch, underscored the importance of cybersecurity awareness across all industry sectors. The report aims to empower BFSI institutions to strengthen their defenses against the rising threat of cyber fraud, which has seen over 36,000 cases reported in India. To address these challenges, coordinated efforts involving the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (IndianCERT), CSIRT-Fin, regulators, and industry stakeholders are essential.
