Indian Home Minister Amit Shah told the Lok Sabha on 29 July that security forces have killed the three militants responsible for the 22 April attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which left 26 people dead. The operation, code-named “Mahadev,” was carried out by Indian forces in the valley. Shah identified the slain militants as Suleiman, Jibran and Abu Hamza, adding that evidence shows two of them were Pakistani nationals. He said the government possesses proof of their cross-border links and presented the eliminations as part of New Delhi’s broader effort to curb Pakistan-based militancy in the region. The announcement comes less than two weeks after Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated that the assailants had been identified and would be ‘dealt with soon.’ Sinha had earlier attributed the April assault to efforts by Pakistan-backed groups to disrupt peace and tourism in the Kashmir valley.
