Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a comprehensive overhaul of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system, set to be implemented by Diwali in October 2025. The reforms aim to simplify the current multi-slab GST regime by reducing the number of tax slabs from four to three: 5%, 18%, and a new 40% slab for luxury and sin goods such as tobacco and online gaming. Most items currently taxed at 12% and 28% will be shifted to the 5% and 18% slabs, respectively, significantly lowering the tax burden on everyday essentials and benefiting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The GST Council is expected to review and take up these proposals soon. Alongside the tax reforms, Modi is set to inaugurate two major National Highway projects in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) on August 17, 2025, with a combined investment of nearly ₹11,000 crore. These projects include the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion in the NCR, thereby enhancing the ease of living for residents.
