Thousands of young Indians have been entrapped in Southeast Asia by fake job offers promising high salaries. These individuals are coerced into participating in online scams targeting fellow Indians, a situation referred to as cyber slavery. The Indian government has decided to crack down on this new form of cybercrime, with measures including the disconnection of 20 million phone numbers. The affected individuals, estimated to be around 30,000, often find themselves in countries like Cambodia and Myanmar, where their passports are confiscated, making escape difficult.
