Prime Minister Narendra Modi was presented with the Key to the City of Buenos Aires on 5 July by Jorge Macri, Head of the Argentine capital’s city government. The ceremonial honour, conferred during Modi’s official visit to Argentina, recognises his role in strengthening relations between the two countries. The presentation came as Modi held wide-ranging talks with President Javier Milei in the first bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to Argentina in 57 years. The leaders discussed expanding cooperation in defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade and investment. Modi called the exchanges "productive" and said they would give “significant momentum” to bilateral ties. Argentina was the third leg of Modi’s five-nation tour, following a stop in Trinidad and Tobago where he received the Caribbean nation’s highest civilian award. The Indian leader has since travelled to Rio de Janeiro to attend the BRICS Summit.
