Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated multiple metro railway projects in Kolkata, West Bengal, including a newly constructed 13.61-kilometer metro network. The inauguration included the flagging off of the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar metro service from Jessore Road Metro Station, as well as the Sealdah–Esplanade and Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay metro services. Modi highlighted the expansion of Kolkata's metro network with seven new stations and emphasized the importance of urban mobility and connectivity as India moves toward becoming the world's third-largest economy. He also interacted with school students and construction workers involved in the metro projects. In Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Modi held a roadshow and inaugurated, laid the foundation stone, and dedicated to the nation multiple development projects worth Rs 5,400 crore at Khodaldham ground. During his visit, he flagged off the 'e-VITARA,' Suzuki's first global strategic battery electric vehicle (BEV), manufactured at the Suzuki Motor plant in Hansalpur, Ahmedabad. The Made-in-India BEVs are set to be exported to over 100 countries. Modi underscored the significance of India's growing green mobility sector and the development of a local battery ecosystem, including the start of local production of hybrid battery electrodes at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant, a joint venture involving Toshiba and Denso. He also noted the transformation of Gujarat's transport infrastructure, including BRTS Janmarg, AC electric buses, and expanding metro rail services, which have improved travel convenience. Modi praised the partnership between India and Japan in advancing technology and skills, highlighting the role of democracy, demography, and a skilled workforce in India's manufacturing growth. He mentioned ongoing efforts to develop futuristic sectors under the Mission Manufacturing initiative and referenced Maruti Suzuki's prototype hybrid electric ambulance as part of India's EV ecosystem advancement.
