Law enforcement agencies have intensified their crackdown on various fraud schemes, particularly targeting the so-called 'Enkeltrick' scams, which primarily exploit elderly individuals. Recently, police arrested 20 suspects in connection with these scams during operations in Göttingen, Germany. The 'Enkeltrick' involves fraudsters impersonating police officers to deceive victims into handing over their savings. In a related incident, a senior citizen in Bengaluru, India, lost ₹1.94 crore (approximately $234,000) to a 'digital arrest' scam. This type of fraud has seen a significant rise, with reports indicating a 672% increase in WhatsApp account thefts this year. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and adopt protective measures against such scams.
