
An increasing number of romance and matrimonial scams in India are targeting women, exploiting their aspirations for agency in intimate relationships. In recent incidents, a 32-year-old woman from Delhi lost Rs 23.5 lakh to a fake investment website, and a 37-year-old pregnant woman from Navi Mumbai was defrauded of Rs 54,30,000. The Navi Mumbai cyber police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. Additionally, a 42-year-old woman named Shweta Patel scammed $1.5 million from a Bradenton man by posing as a federal agent and involving a mysterious figure known as 'King'.
