
A recent study conducted by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has revealed that 71% of individual intraday traders in the equity cash segment incurred losses in the financial year 2022-23 (FY23). The study also highlighted that for traders who engaged in more than 500 trades per year, the proportion of loss-makers increased to 80%. Additionally, the number of individuals participating in intraday trading surged by over 300% in the past four years. The study underscored the risks associated with intraday trading, noting that traders from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities faced more losses compared to those from Tier-1 cities. On average, loss-making traders incurred a loss of Rs 5,371.
