Indian equities opened slightly higher on 15 July, buoyed by easing June retail inflation and mostly positive global cues. The BSE Sensex rose 183 points to 82,436 while the NSE Nifty added 53 points to 25,136, broadly matching earlier indications from GIFT Nifty futures. Mid- and small-cap indices extended their outperformance, with the Nifty Midcap at 59,172 and the Nifty Smallcap at 19,003. Stock-specific moves were mixed. HCL Technologies fell about 2 percent after its first-quarter results came in below market expectations. In contrast, agro-chemical producer Rallis India surged 9 percent to a record ₹386 after reporting a 98 percent year-on-year jump in net profit to ₹95 crore on revenue of ₹957 crore. The Tata group company also announced that Bhaskar Swaminathan will become chief financial officer on 7 August, succeeding Subhra Gourisaria. Traders are watching whether the Nifty holds support at 24,900 amid a busy earnings docket that includes HDFC Life, ICICI Lombard, ICICI Prudential and HDB Financial Services later in the day. Analysts say the index could face a deeper pullback if that level gives way.
