The Supreme Court of India has granted bail to eight convicts involved in the 1987 Hashimpura massacre, where 38 individuals were killed by personnel from the Provincial Armed Constabulary. This decision was made public on December 6, 2024. In a separate legal matter, the Delhi High Court is currently considering bail applications for Umar Khalid and Meeran Haider, who are accused in the Delhi riots conspiracy case. They are seeking bail on the grounds of prolonged incarceration and parity with other detainees. The court has scheduled the next hearing for December 17. Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested IAS officer Sanjeev Hans and former RJD MLA Gulab Yadav in a money laundering investigation, with ongoing questioning of their spouses. In another development, suspended Jharkhand IAS officer Pooja Singhal was granted bail in a money laundering case involving the alleged embezzlement of over Rs 36 crore, after spending 28 months in judicial custody. This ruling was issued by a special PMLA court in Ranchi on December 7, 2024.
