The Supreme Court of India has ruled that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) cannot arrest an accused under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on money laundering charges after a special court has taken cognisance of the complaint. The court stated that if the ED requires custody of the accused, it must move an application before the concerned court. This ruling limits the powers of the ED and ensures that the judicial process is followed once the special court has acknowledged the complaint.
