Suzuki Motor Corp. on Tuesday rolled out the e-Vitara, its first global strategic battery-electric vehicle, from the company’s plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki jointly flagged off the sport-utility vehicle, which is being manufactured under the “Make in India, Make for the World” initiative. The automaker plans to export the made-in-India model to more than 100 countries, underscoring New Delhi’s ambition to position the country as a hub for affordable green mobility. Modi said the launch marks “a big leap” toward self-reliance in the electric-vehicle supply chain. Ahead of the ceremony, Modi inaugurated the next phase of India’s battery ecosystem by starting local production of hybrid battery electrodes at the nearby TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant, a Toshiba–Denso–Suzuki joint venture. The Prime Minister had earlier unveiled development projects in Ahmedabad valued at about Rs 5,400 crore, part of a two-day visit aimed at showcasing Gujarat’s role in manufacturing and clean-energy technologies.
