Tata Consultancy Services will grant annual pay increases to roughly 80% of its 600,000-plus employees from 1 September, according to an internal email confirmed by the company. The raises, normally awarded in April, were postponed for five months as the Mumbai-based IT services provider cited an uncertain business environment and slower client spending. The wage decision follows a restructuring drive that included plans to shed more than 12,000 positions, underscoring the pressure on India’s $283 billion technology outsourcing sector. TCS, which reported client delays and project deferrals at its July earnings call, said the revisions cover staff up to the assistant-consultant grade, while details for senior employees are still being finalized. Chief Human Resource Officer Milind Lakkad told employees the company was “pleased to announce” the adjustments despite industry headwinds. Attrition at TCS climbed to 13.8% in June, its highest level in two years, as workers awaited clarity on compensation. The company said it remains focused on balancing cost controls with talent retention as global demand remains soft.
