The U.S. State Department has designated The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, as both a Foreign Terrorist Organization and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the move responds to the April 22 assault in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, where militants killed 26 civilians. Washington’s action freezes any TRF assets under U.S. jurisdiction and criminalizes material support by American entities. It also opens the door for secondary sanctions against individuals or groups that aid the organisation. New Delhi welcomed the listing, calling it further evidence of growing U.S.–India counter-terrorism cooperation. Indian officials noted that previous bilateral and Quad statements had urged tougher measures against groups linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. Islamabad, whose foreign minister had earlier defended the group at the United Nations, had not publicly responded by Friday. Analysts said the designation could increase pressure on Pakistan, already facing scrutiny at the Financial Action Task Force, to curb militant proxies operating from its soil.
