
UK Scam Losses Reach £11.4 Billion; Azamgarh Police Arrest 11 in ₹190 Crore Cyber Fraud, ₹2 Crore Frozen
UK scam losses have surged by 50% annually, reaching £11.4 billion, according to a report. In India, the Azamgarh Police have made significant progress against cyber fraud, arresting 11 individuals involved in a scam worth ₹190 crore. The police also froze ₹2 crore across 169 bank accounts and recovered goods valued at ₹35 lakh, including ₹3.5 lakh in cash. This operation highlights the growing issue of cybercrime in India, where reported incidents of fraud via UPI have resulted in losses of ₹485 crore across 632,000 cases in the current financial year. Additionally, a report indicates that India lost over ₹11,000 crore to cyber scams in the first nine months of 2024. The Federal Trade Commission has reported that losses to scam artists in the U.S. reached $10 billion last year, a billion more than in 2022, underscoring a global rise in cyber fraud.
