A series of cloudburst incidents have severely impacted multiple districts in Uttarakhand, India, including Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, and Tehri Garhwal, since August 23, 2025. The early cloudburst in Chamoli's Tharali area caused widespread destruction, prompting Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to conduct multiple field inspections and meet disaster-affected residents at relief camps in Kulsari and Tharali. Efforts to restore damaged infrastructure and provide essential support to victims are underway. Subsequent cloudbursts in Rudraprayag's Bareth Dungar Tok area and Chamoli's Deval region led to debris flows that trapped families and caused extensive damage. Relief teams, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), have been deployed to affected locations, with about 200 people taking refuge in a government school in Basukedaar, Rudraprayag. Two people remain missing in Chamoli, and many animals have been buried under debris. Roads in Chamoli and other districts remain closed due to heavy rains and debris accumulation. The Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan and Disaster Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman have been actively monitoring the situation, coordinating rescue and relief operations. In Uttarkashi, additional rescue efforts continue in Sayana Chatti and Harshil, where temporary lakes formed due to debris are being cleared. The state government has assured continuous support to all disaster-affected individuals and is working to expedite relief and rehabilitation measures.
