Indonesia and the United States have engaged in ongoing negotiations concerning tariffs, with discussions including the issue of transshipment. Indonesian officials have indicated that talks are still underway to finalize details and exemptions related to the U.S. tariff deal. The Indonesian government is seeking zero-tariff access for its exports, although it has clarified that not all U.S. products will be exempt from tariffs in Indonesia. Amid these negotiations, Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund Danantara plans to sign an $8 billion engineering, procurement, and construction contract with U.S. engineering firm KBR to build 17 modular refineries. Indonesian Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto highlighted that the reduction of U.S. import tariffs is aimed at protecting approximately one million jobs in Indonesia's labor-intensive sectors.
