Indonesian Deputy Manpower Minister Immanuel Ebenezer, also known as Noel, was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on August 20, 2025, in connection with an extortion case involving the issuance of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) certificates. Following a sting operation, KPK seized evidence including Rp 170 million and USD 2,201, as well as luxury vehicles such as a Nissan GT-R R35. Immanuel Ebenezer was formally named a suspect and detained along with 10 others for 20 days. The KPK revealed that Ebenezer requested Rp 3 billion, purportedly to renovate his private residence in Cimanggis, West Java, and acknowledged receiving a Ducati motorcycle as part of the alleged extortion. During his tenure from October 2024 to August 2025, he earned approximately Rp 540 million in salary and allowances. His declared wealth totals around Rp 17.6 billion. President Prabowo Subianto has authorized KPK to proceed with legal actions and subsequently dismissed Ebenezer from his post. The case has drawn attention due to Ebenezer's close ties with former President Joko Widodo. KPK is continuing investigations, including tracing fund flows and searching for three luxury vehicles that were reportedly moved from Ebenezer's official residence post-arrest. The commission has also called for cooperation from associates of Ebenezer and is examining additional suspects, including the spouse of a KPK employee and local officials such as the Regent of Pati, Sudewo, in related corruption probes. The case is considered a cautionary example for members of the current cabinet.
