The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in Indonesia summoned Sudewo, the Regent of Pati, on August 27, 2025, in connection with a bribery case involving a railway construction and maintenance project under the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) at the Ministry of Transportation. Sudewo complied with the summons and appeared as a witness. The Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu (AMPB) threatened to hold a large demonstration in front of the KPK building if Sudewo was not named a suspect, but later indicated they would cancel the protest if he were charged. Despite public pressure and calls for his resignation, Sudewo stated his intention to remain committed to developing Pati. The KPK reported receiving over 350 letters from Pati residents concerning the corruption case. Meanwhile, protests erupted in Jakarta over lawmakers' allowances, which are nearly ten times the minimum wage. Riot police used water cannons and tear gas against demonstrators gathered in front of the parliament. The unrest led to one fatality and several injuries, with some vehicles set on fire. The Jakarta Provincial Government assured that medical expenses for those injured during the demonstrations would be covered. Student groups, including the Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Universitas Indonesia (BEM UI) and BEM Seluruh Indonesia (BEM SI), planned further demonstrations at the Polda Metro Jaya police headquarters. Additionally, the KPK detained a suspect identified as HD, owner of PT SMJL and PT MAS within the Bara Jaya Utama group, related to a credit benefit case.
