Several prominent Indonesian musicians have publicly criticized Wahana Musik Indonesia (WAMI), the collective management organization responsible for distributing music royalties in the country. Singer Teuku Adifitrian, known as Tompi, resigned from WAMI, citing dissatisfaction with the organization's royalty distribution performance. Ari Lasso, former vocalist of Dewa 19, sharply criticized WAMI's management of royalties, describing it as poor. Musician Ahmad Dhani also expressed concerns about WAMI's inability to enforce payment of fees from members who refuse to pay composers. In response to these criticisms, WAMI acknowledged an email miscommunication with Ari Lasso but did not address other issues raised. Meanwhile, the band Kerispatih confirmed that they continue to entrust their royalty matters to WAMI, adhering to current legal regulations. These developments highlight ongoing tensions between Indonesian artists and the collective rights management body over royalty administration.
