Andreessen Horowitz’s official account on X was taken over on 18 June, with posts directing followers to suspicious links. Industry figures quickly warned users to avoid interacting with the page while the venture-capital firm worked to regain control. Less than a month later, on 11 July, the blockchain project Plasma Foundation suffered a similar breach. Cyber-security firm SlowMist said the attackers masked the destination of a phishing link by spoofing a Twitter bot user-agent to make it appear legitimate before redirecting to a fraudulent site. The back-to-back compromises highlight persistent security lapses on X that allow threat actors to hijack high-profile accounts and circulate phishing campaigns. Users were advised not to click on unfamiliar links, while X and the affected organisations have not yet commented publicly on the incidents.
