The cryptocurrency sector experienced significant security breaches, with the WOO ecosystem being exploited for approximately $8 million, as reported by PeckShieldAlert. The exploiter transferred ~2K $ETH and later 199.52 $ETH (worth ~$713.5K) to new addresses. This incident is part of a larger trend of attacks on the crypto industry, which saw over $67 million lost to hacks and fraud in February across 12 incidents, with DeFi platforms being the primary targets. In a related event, an address was liquidated for 534.24 WETH (worth ~$1.21M) after ETH's price dipped to $3,200. The WOOFi development team acknowledged an exploit of its swap contract on Arbitrum but assured that all other WOO contracts remain secure. Additionally, the DeFi platform WOOFi was reportedly exploited for $8.75 million in cryptocurrencies. Victims of phishing also suffered losses, including 10 NFTs featuring BoredApeYachtClub #2443, 20.1K $OLAS (worth ~$114.4K), and 674.4K $USDC. Beyond individual platform incidents, the broader issue of online fraud is highlighted by the FTC's report that Coloradans lost $164 million to fraudsters last year, with about 61,000 reports of fraud and scams in the state. The FBI also reported that Americans faced over $12.5 billion in losses to online fraud in 2023, marking a 22% increase from the previous year, with investment fraud, including significant amounts related to crypto, growing 38% YoY to $4.57 billion.
