Federal authorities have taken decisive action against multiple cybercriminals involved in large-scale cryptocurrency fraud and cyberattacks. Charles O. Parks III, known as "CP3O," was sentenced to one year and one day in prison following an FBI New York Cyber Crimes Task Force investigation. Parks operated an illegal cryptojacking scheme that stole over $3.5 million worth of computing resources from cloud service providers to mine cryptocurrency. In a separate case, federal prosecutors charged a 22-year-old Oregon man with operating the "Rapper Bot," a powerful distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) botnet responsible for over 370,000 attacks across 80 countries, including a major disruption of the social media platform X earlier in 2025. The botnet utilized approximately 95,000 hacked devices and could generate traffic of up to 6 terabits per second. Authorities have gained control of the botnet and indicted its lead developer and administrator. Additionally, Eddy Alexandre, founder of the defunct crypto platform EminiFX, was ordered by a New York federal court to pay more than $228 million in restitution after being convicted of running a Ponzi scheme that defrauded thousands of investors and used funds for luxury cars. Noah Urban, aka "King Bob," a member of the hacking group Scattered Spider, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison and ordered to pay $13 million in restitution for cryptocurrency theft linked to multiple major hacks. These actions reflect ongoing efforts by U.S. law enforcement to combat sophisticated cybercrime targeting the cryptocurrency sector and critical internet infrastructure.
