Several high-profile cryptocurrency and tech-related accounts have been compromised, leading to a surge in scams. The Compound community's Discord server was hacked on September 20, 2024, but access has since been regained and secured. Additionally, the personal account of Adot's CEO and the Immutable X Discord server were also compromised, with users being warned not to interact with any messages or links from these accounts. The FBI reported that cryptocurrency scams duped Americans out of $5.6 billion in 2023. OpenAI has also been targeted, with multiple accounts of its researchers, including Jason Wei, being hacked to promote fraudulent cryptocurrency schemes. Jason Wei's account had 65k followers. Other compromised OpenAI accounts include those of Jakub Pachocki and Mira Murati. Users are advised to remain vigilant and avoid clicking on suspicious links or sending funds to unverified accounts.
