The cyberattack forced the cancellation of elective inpatient and outpatient procedures as the hospital prioritized acute care services. In response, neighboring Dayton hospitals increased staffing to support Kettering Health during the disruption. The incident has raised concerns about patient data security and healthcare service continuity amid rising cyber threats, with reports indicating that 58% of hospitals are at risk of similar attacks. Separately, IT services company Serviceaide notified the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that sensitive data of up to 483,126 Catholic Health patients may have been exposed in a breach in November, highlighting ongoing cybersecurity challenges in the healthcare sector.
