Microsoft Corp. has released an emergency update for Windows 10 users following reports of a critical bug that caused devices to enter a 'lockdown' state. The issue was linked to the May Patch Tuesday update, which triggered BitLocker screen lockouts on many PCs, particularly those with Intel vPro processors of the 10th generation or newer. Microsoft has advised users to install the out-of-band update KB5061768 available on the Microsoft Update Catalog to resolve the problem. Users are instructed to temporarily disable Intel VT for Direct I/O and Intel Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) in BIOS/UEFI settings, using the BitLocker recovery key, and then re-enable these settings after installing the update. Separately, a massive data breach involving over 184 million login credentials has been uncovered by cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler. The exposed database, amounting to 47 GB of data, was not password-protected or encrypted and included usernames and plaintext passwords for various platforms such as Apple, Google, and Meta, as well as accounts linked to government domains from at least 29 countries. The data is believed to have been compiled using infostealer malware, with the password field labeled as 'Senha'. The breach poses significant risks, including potential identity theft and unauthorized access to sensitive accounts. Users are urged to change their passwords and enable two-factor authentication to protect their accounts. The database was hosted on an unmanaged server by World Host Group, which has since taken it offline.
