
In a series of recent cyberattacks, multiple organizations across various countries have reported breaches attributed to different ransomware groups. The Brain Cipher group has claimed responsibility for breaches in France, where they exfiltrated 100 GB of data from Cyceron, and in Portugal, where they took 1 TB of data from Fabamaq, a casino game software developer. In South Africa, Lenmed Private Hospitals reported a breach by the Dark Vault group, marking the second attack on the healthcare provider this year. Additionally, the BianLian group has breached Southwest Family Medicine Associates in the USA, stealing 400 GB of sensitive HR and patient data. The Dark Vault group also targeted the Gauteng Partnership Fund, with a ransom deadline set for August 20, 2024. The recent data indicates that the United States has been the most affected country, accounting for 51% of the 97 victims reported by 25 hacking groups during the week of August 7-13, 2024. Research from Palo Alto Networks highlights that 80% of ransomware and unauthorized login vulnerabilities were detected on cloud-hosted assets. Overall, six ransomware gangs are responsible for over 50% of the attacks reported in 2024.
