Recent reports indicate a surge in malware targeting gamers, particularly on macOS systems. A new variant of the XCSSET malware has been identified, which poses risks to cryptocurrency wallets and sensitive data. This variant spreads through infected Xcode projects. Additionally, hackers are embedding crypto-mining malware within torrented game installers for popular titles such as Garry's Mod and Dyson Sphere Program, as noted by Kaspersky. These malicious applications are designed to mine Monero, a cryptocurrency, without the users' consent. Gamers are advised to exercise caution, especially regarding fake updates for browsers like Chrome and Safari, which have also been linked to malware distribution.
