The Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) have reached an agreement to resume crude oil exports from the autonomous Kurdistan region after a suspension of more than two years. This decision comes amid ongoing drone attacks on oil fields in the area. Baghdad has approved a plan for the Kurdish region to transfer oil to the state oil marketer, marking a step toward restarting exports through the northern pipeline. However, sources from the Kurdistan Oil Exporters Association (APIKUR) and the KRG indicate that the actual resumption of exports is contingent upon oil companies obtaining final signed agreements. As of now, Baghdad and the oil companies have not yet agreed on the specific mechanisms for restarting crude exports, suggesting that the restart of Kurdish oil exports is not imminent.
