Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup, xAI, has successfully raised $6 billion in a Series B funding round, marking the largest Series B raise ever. The funding round, which values xAI at $24 billion post-money and $18 billion pre-money, saw participation from prominent investors including Valor Equity Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and Saudi Arabia's Kingdom Holding. The funds will be used to build a supercomputer, dubbed the 'Gigafactory of Compute', which will be powered by 100,000 Nvidia H100 chips. This supercomputer aims to support the development of advanced AI systems, including the next version of xAI's chatbot, Grok. The company is focused on creating AI systems that are truthful, competent, and beneficial for humanity, with a mission to understand the true nature of the universe. xAI's latest model, Grok-1.5V, can process visual information in addition to text capabilities.
