On the morning of August 20, 2025, a 26-year-old asylum seeker from Mali caused disruption at Terminal 1 of Milan's Malpensa Airport by smashing check-in monitors with a hammer and setting fire to trash cans and check-in desks. The incident prompted a partial evacuation of the terminal as passengers fled the scene. The individual was subdued by an Italian man who used a fire extinguisher to knock him out and pinned him down until police arrived. Authorities quickly brought the situation under control and arrested the suspect. Witnesses reported that the man was heard shouting that he wanted a job during the attack.
